India Vs Brazil FIFA International Friendly on Oct 3

Soccer-hungry spectators across India are awaiting with bated breath to witness the unveiling of a maiden choreography of Indian dhak with the pulse of the Samba drum as India versus Brazil soccer tourney gets underway at the modern, spruced up Salt Lake Stadium on October 3 next.

For a populace that treats football not merely as a sport but as an overarching emotion, this FIFA International Friendly has triggered an unprecedented frenzy.

The air in Kolkata is thick with anticipation, and the city’s iconic tea stalls and club pavilions are buzzing with a singular question: are we truly ready to witness the poetry of ginga in our own backyard?

This is no ordinary fixture; it is the ultimate pilgrimage for Indian fans who have spent decades idolising the yellow-and-green jersey from afar.

It is the city that famously divides its loyalty during the World Cup is now uniting under one roof to witness the fluid choreography, audacious tricks, and joyful flair that define the Jogo Bonito.

For the highly anticipated clash against India, Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti is reported to have opted toward a new World Cup rebuilding cycle. Following their recent friendlies against Australia, Ancelotti has heavily favored a 4-3-3 tactical system designed to blend younger prospects with marquee superstars.

With veteran players like Neymar (retired from international duties), Casemiro, Alisson, and Ederson completely absent from the 26-man travelling squad, Brazil’s projected starting line-up is set to showcase elite European firepower alongside rising talent.

The defence line-up is likely to feature Vanderson or Matheuzinho in the right back while the PSG captain Marquinhos and Arsenal-famed Gabriel Magalhães in the center back and Mauro Júnior in the left.

Three midfielders are likely to include -Bruno Guimarães (Arsenal), Danilo and Douglas Luiz (Juventus) or Gabriel Bontempo (Santos).

The center forwards are expected to comprise Raphinha (Barcelona) in the right, Endrick (Real Madrid) or Rayan (Vasco / Bournemouth) at the center while the fabled Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid) in the left.

Throwback to Pele’s Match at Eden Gardens

For a generation raised on stories of Pelé, Ronaldinho, and Neymar, seeing the famed Samba soccer live against our own Blue Tigers on home soil is sort of a dream coming true.

Marking a 48-year milestone, a throwback recalls when Pele visited the City of Joy in the late 70s, donning the jersey of Cosmos Club, USA and played an exhibition match against a charged-up Mohun Bagan at the Eden Gardens and the match ended in 2-2 draw.

As the countdown ticks away, the city is transforming into a miniature Rio de Janeiro, with the legendary footballing arena upgraded with brand-new digital screens, numbered seats, and a completely re-engineered turf; everything set to match the FIFA standard, revealed West Bengal Sports minister Dr. Indranil Khan.

On October 6, the stadium will reverberate with expectant noise of fans who are going to be treated with a toast of Latin American brand of soccer when the Blue Tigers will be poised to take on Uruguay; the Latin American team is expected to comprise several World Cup veterans, Dr. Khan indicated.

According to him, QR-code-based digital ticketing would be used to curb black marketing, while numbered seats would help prevent confusion in the stands. The ticketing technology would be identical to systems used during the FIFA World Cup.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, he said, was personally monitoring the arrangements. Giant LED screens will be installed behind the two goalposts for a close and perfect view of arena during the coveted match.

Plus, LED screens will be installed in the district headquarters as well for the soccer-crazy fans so that they don’t feel being deprived of a live telecast.
